5 Sept 2011: Christchurch Gymnasts take honours at South Island Champs

Gymnasts from the Christchurch School of Gymnastics (CSG) dominated the dais at last weekend’s South Island Championships at Timaru, 3 & 4 September 2011.

With over 300 girls and 75 boys competing over two days it was an exciting weekend of gymnastics.  CSG was the best performing team taking top honours in the team events in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Step 2, 3, 4, and 5.  Almost without exception competitors from the Christchurch School of Gymnastics featured in the top three place getters in every event.

“We are very proud of our gymnasts who have had a difficult year with earthquakes and snow causing interruptions to training.  It is a testament to their commitment and the commitment of the coaching staff that they have achieved such high results” said Avril Enslow, Executive Officer at CSG.

The South Island Champs at Timaru where the last event for the junior competitive gymnasts, so this was a particularly pleasing finish to the competitive season said Enslow.

Gymnastics is the fourth highest participation sport in New Zealand, so it was exciting to see the crew from the Erin Simpson Show filming on Day 1 of the competition.  Coverage from the competition will feature on the show on 21 September.
